Our Mission
At Varsity Rock Music School, our mission is to provide students with an enriching and transformative musical experience. We believe that music has the power to inspire, educate, heal and bring people together. Our program is centered around our collaborative modern band approach, which allows students to learn and perform as a band from day one.
Our Method
Varsity Rock began in Fall of 2020, founded by owner and operator, Michael Scott Bates. It began with the idea to create a music program that provides a practical application to music learning and not just your average private lesson. We strive to create life-long musicians through collaboration, approximation and real-world performance experience. Proving you don’t have to be born with musical ability or have started young to learn to rock like the pros!
We teach students the skills, tools, and techniques they need to succeed as modern musicians of all types and levels. We focus on learning popular music genres such as rock, pop, R&B, and hip-hop. Our curriculum includes lessons in guitar, ukulele, bass, drums, vocals, keyboard, and other instruments commonly found in modern bands. With our approach, students learn how to play in a band, write songs, and perform for real audiences.
Varsity Rock Music School is described as a one-of-a-kind music program. Through our gameified approach to music learning, students have numerous opportunities to also earn points each session they attend in which they can cash in for gear and prizes! Our merit system is also designed to award patches to add to each student’s letter jacket every three quarters in their designated instrument.
Meet Your Instructor
Michael Scott Bates is a multi-talented musician and teacher who has made significant contributions to the music industry. With his degree in Bachelor of Education from the University of Washington and an associate degree in Instrumental Performance, Michael has developed a strong foundation in music theory and instrumental techniques. He is well known for his work as a one-man band, songwriter, and versatile performer. His music has won accolades and critical acclaim and has been featured in several popular media outlets.
Beyond performing, Michael is also an avid music educator and has brought his passion for music to the classroom, inspiring countless learners to pursue their interests in the artform. His contributions to the music industry have left a lasting impact, making him a respected figure in the field and local community.
